Global Missions (go to Local Missions)
GUATEMALA PARTNERSHIP First Presbyterian Church has a "partner" or sister-church in Guatemala by the name of Jesus Fuente de Aqua Viva ("Jesus, Fountain of Living Waters"). Through the partnership, our congregations communicate with and pray for each other and are reminded that God's love and family knows no geographic or cultural bounds. Periodically, we assemble "Health Kits," which go directly to minister to the children of our partner churches. Needs: people to communicate creatively
MISSIONARIES IN THE FIELD First Presbyterian Church supports several missionaries in foreign countries. We are always looking for church members willing to correspond with or pray for our missionaries. They include the following:
Steve and Buffy White - Brazil - South America Mission
Leslie and Cynthia Morgan - BANGLADESH
Barbara Nagy- MALAWI
Joe Dyer- SUDAN (retired in June of 2006)
JoAnn Griffith - ETHIOPIA (retired in 2005)
MISSION TRIPS Our church sponsors local and foreign "mission trips" throughout the year. These trips have varying emphases, such as: construction, health care, teaching, evangelism, study, and fellowship. Needs: people looking to travel and serve God abroad (variety of times and types of service)
FIVE CENTS-A-MEAL The five cents-a-meal program is a partnership of Christian faith and action demonstrated through prayer and action. By contributing five cents per person at each meal, individuals, families, and congregations are reminded each time they eat of the needs of others and our Christian call to respond to hunger. As money accumulates, those participating become aware that small acts done regularly can result in significant responses to hunger and that there is great strength in working together with other Christians. The offering is collected by our children on the fourth Sunday of each month in both worship services. The funds are used locally to combat hunger. Needs: your generous giving!
REGIONAL CHILDREN'S HOMES Black Mountain Children's Home and Grandfather Home for Children. These three children's homes minister to the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of children, who for some reason need care outside of the home. In some cases there is no "home" as such; in other cases the children's homes are working to re-establish relationships with family. All three homes are within an hour or so of Lenoir.
